JOB TITLE:

WWAMI Anatomy Laboratory Manager

JOB PURPOSE:
The Wyoming WWAMI Medical Education program invites applications for a full-time staff position to support the anatomy laboratory. This is a full-time, fiscal-year (12-month), benefited position.
The WWAMI Medical Education program is Wyoming's Medical School. The University of Wyoming participates in the WWAMI Medical Education program which is affiliated with the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) in Seattle, WA. Our Laramie regional campus is directly responsible for instruction of the basic sciences foundation and foundations of clinical medicine components of the medical education curriculum, which composes a majority of the first two years of medical school. The selected candidate will join a team in Laramie and across the WWAMI region dedicated to high-quality medical education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the lab prosection collection by ensuring proper specimen storage
  • Keep keeping weekly records of updates to collection status
  • Plan upcoming prosections for future labs and coordinate lab activities with the WWAMI anatomist
  • Assist with creating prosections
  • Schedule the lab hazardous waste removal with the UW Risk Management and Safety office once training is completed
  • Maintain lab inventory and reorder lab supplies as needed
  • Make solutions for prosections
  • Participate in the annual donor exchange
  • Ensure daily operation and maintenance of the WWAMI Anatomy Lab, including the supervision of regular custodial maintenance of lab floors and surfaces
  • Maintain instruments and help prep for and clean up after student laboratories.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: 2 years work-related experience

Other: Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Anatomy or related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of dissection techniques and references, including familiarity with surgical and autopsy instruments and their safe utilization.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and FERPA compliance, and the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act, as interpreted by the states of Colorado and Wyoming
  • Ability to learn the use of an Anatomage table to supplement cadaveric prosection and dissection-based learning
  • Ability to safely learn and operate a small hydraulic fork lift, power tools, and proper use and disposal of chemicals used in the preservation and maintenance of biological specimens
  • Willingness to engage in short teaching demonstrations for WWAMI and non-WWAMI students to build teaching experience
  • Licensed embalmers or funeral home directors may be considered if experience includes essential duties and responsibilities listed
  • At least 1-year of experience in dissection and prosection in a human gross anatomy laboratory across all body systems
  • Ability to learn WyoCloud to manage inventory, expenses, and reconciling accounts in a manner consistent with professionalism and discretion
  • Demonstrated clear, articulate, and respectful written and oral communication skills
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to effectively work independently in a laboratory environment
  • Effective time management skills, clear organization and prioritization of multiple time-sensitive tasks, and the ability to maintain confidentiality within and outside the laboratory
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office and Apple software
