Description

Provides executive leadership directing a broad-based multi-sectioned office responsible for divisionwide communications, media relations, and public requests for information; develops, manages, supervises, evaluates, and modifies all activities, programs, projects, personnel, and physical and fiscal resources of the office; is responsible and accountable for strategic planning and outcomes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master's degree in journalism, media relations, communication, education, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Eight (8) years of progressive experience in developing and managing complex multimedia communication programs.
    • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
  • Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, methods, materials, and trends related to communication management, public school system policies, and communication outreach programs.
  • Knowledge of K-12 education systems and the unique challenges and opportunities associated with educational communication.
  • Knowledge of FOIA/FERPA regulations and handling public information requests.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of available communication technologies, print and non-print, including publishing, graphic design, broadcast and web-based media, social media platforms, and media monitoring tools.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to engage strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with the adeptness to anticipate potential communication issues and develop proactive solutions.
  • Ability to supervise and lead with the capacity to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Ability to manage the fiscal, physical, and human resources necessary to carry out the function and programs of the office to which assigned.
  • Ability to conduct complex administrative studies.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with personnel assigned to schools, departments, public entities, and citizens.
  • Ability to exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred
  • Accreditation in Public Relations (APR).

$136,446 - $207,572
