Position Highlights

The Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research (LTRR) of the University of Arizona (UArizona) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant level with an anticipated start date of August 2024. We are seeking candidates who will advance scholarship in dendrochronology and/or any established or emerging related fields (e.g., archaeology, carbon cycling, chemistry, climatology, ecology, fire ecology, hydrology, ecophysiology quantitative wood anatomy, xylogenesis) or other inter-disciplinary domains connected to tree-ring research (e.g., vegetation modelling, remote sensing, machine learning/ artificial intelligence, extreme events and economics, time-series analyses, high-resolution paleoclimatology). We especially invite candidates interested in contributing to an inclusive research and mentoring environment in both collaborative and leadership roles. The Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research (https://ltrr.arizona.edu/) is based in the University of Arizona's College of Science (https://science.arizona.edu/) and contributes to interdisciplinary scholarship and pedagogy in at least six other departments across three Colleges, as well as nationally and internationally. The LTRR will soon be housing state-of-the-art instrumentation within the LTRR Tree-Ring Innovations in Mass Spectrometry for Earth Systems (LTRR-TIME) facility and seeks to further grow and host additional community research and training infrastructure. We invite candidates that have interest and potential to acquire funding and disseminate research in both scholarly journals and with general audiences via outreach programming. LTRR faculty generally teach two courses per academic year and are expected to mentor a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of learning and training settings. Start-up funding has been allocated to this position to help foster a framework for the candidate's success, and their contributions to the LTRR, and allied departments and programs at the University of Arizona (e.g., https://sees.arizona.edu/ and https://air.arizona.edu/) and beyond.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain an active and extramurally funded research program, to participate fully and with distinction in both undergraduate and graduate education and mentoring, and to contribute to Departmental, University, as well as national and international service and outreach. Additional duties as assigned.
