Position Highlights

Computer Science is looking for candidates to fill the role of Coordinator, Academic and Support Services. This role will interface between faculty, academic advisors, and undergraduate students enrolled in our introductory courses. We are looking for a committed individual who will take lead on departmental and academic goals as requested, and see them through to a timely conclusion. They will be a self-starter who takes initiative to master new skills and content areas in order to continually improve the academic experience of our incoming students. We are looking for someone who can contribute to a team environment, who enjoys working with diverse people, and who is willing to learn new tools and techniques in order to achieve project goals.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for undergraduate students enrolled in our introductory course sequenceses, ensuring that they can navigate introductory courses.
  • They will add to relevant academic and career resources to ensure successful management of the revamped curriculum, and monitor student progress in achieving their academic goals.
  • They will aid students by directing them to utilize additional UA resources and other support services offered by the university, according to their needs.
  • They will also collaborate with faculty and advisors who have identified students in need of support, to coordinate interventions and service efforts necessary in allowing for optimal academic progress and success.
  • They will be responsible for reporting and documenting efforts, goals, and student interactions to share with stakeholders so as to align goals and efforts in maintaining academic success for students, faculty, and Advisors.
  • Supporting faculty with recruitment and training of teaching assistants by developing workshops as appropriate as a way to up-skill TAs.
  • Engage with faculty to understand what curriculum modifications need to be so as to communicate with students in an effective way, ensuring that it aligns with the goals of the department, college, and the university.
  • Work closely with faculty and advisors to understand curriculum changes and to communicate this information to students. Assist in student self assessments to determine course path based on their background levels in the field.
  • Gathering and evaluating student performance and faculty efforts to enhance course redesign initiatives. They will collaborate with faculty to adjust programs and services to align with the college and department's need, and with the objectives at hand.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Either a Bachelor's in a degree related to computing, or equivalent education and experience working with students in computing
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
