Job Description

The Building People have an immediate opening for a Senior Security System Support Specialist (SSSSS) to support our federal client. The Senior Security System Support Specialist's (SSSSS) shall have extensive experience in interpreting the impact of applicable federal regulations, policies, procedures, principles and concepts that govern the federal Personal Identify Verification (PIV)/Common Access Card (CAC) systems. This includes HSPD12 and FIPS 201-1 as needed, and federal agency Directives and Handbooks. The SSSSS shall work independently in determining what needs to be done to resolve the various types of security credential management and informs leadership (within 4-hours) of any problems encountered which cannot be resolved by application of existing guidelines, standard practices, or good judgement. This position will be required to access Silver Spring and Suitland MD offices based on customer requirements.


Required Experience & Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work with a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Maintain an in-depth working knowledge of the CAC/PIV program and the duties of each CAC/PIV role (e.g., PIV Applicants, PIV Manager, PIV Sponsor, PIV Registrar, PIV Issuer, Site Security Manager, PIV Card Issuance Manager (PCI-M), etc.)
  • Provide sound technical advice and guidance to employees, contractors, affiliates, and volunteers with regard to matters pertaining to the federal customer requirements.
  • Conduct research and special projects as needed on security-related issues and compiles data from diverse sources, assembles information and develops reports or presentations.
  • Determines when and if a temporary identification badge should be issued to an applicant pending background check requirements.
  • Updates all daily security tracking logs developed to maintain accountability and efficiency, and notifies customer when access cards will expire
  • Monitors all PIV equipment to ensure it is running at optimal levels.
  • Practices a high degree of operational security.
  • Issues the initial and replacement access cards to authorized personnel, cancels access cards when necessary due to loss, damage, reassignment, and name change, and disposes (shreds) access cards properly.
  • Prepares field office security credentials and issues to the requesting component. Voids all security credentials as requested by authorized personnel and returns voided credential components when requested.
  • Inputs data into the security credential management system to document credentials issued, replaced, and voided. Maintains files on identification and access requests.
  • Schedules and performs fingerprinting required by the contract.
  • Serves as Site Security Manager (SSM) for CAC/RAPIDS and US Access/PIV-I role equivalent.
  • Protects privacy, administers security-related training, and ensures policy and procedures are kept compliant with federal requirements.

Place of Performance & Travel

  • This position is split between Silver Spring and Suitland Maryland.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
