JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The Skilled Laborer will pour, smooth, and set asphalt on roads, pathways, and parking lots. This may include raking, sweeping, and lining out the road as well as working alongside the Pave Operator, Milling Machine Operator, Roller Operator and Screedman.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Placement of hot mix asphalt through the use of a shovel, lute or other related tools,
  • Shovel asphaltic materials and assisting with maintenance of asphalt finishing machine to include adding or removing screed extensions,
  • Perform asphalt millings, prepare surface for paving, and prepare asphalt for hot mix concrete,
  • Assist with traffic control during paving operations,
  • Clean and sanitize asphalt production equipment,
  • Handle construction materials,
  • Set up and tears down work sites,
  • Sweep and clean roads,
  • Responsible for pavement marking, striping, and signage,
  • Follow instruction of Asphalt Equipment Operator and Asphalt Foreman,
  • Work in varying weather conditions and work environments including dusty, wet, loud noises. etc.,
  • Must wear proper attire at all times including: safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image,
  • May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

  • Must have 2 years or more years of experience in Heavy Construction,
  • Valid driver's license preferred,
  • High school diploma or GED desired,
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills,
  • Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time,
  • Must have the ability to stand and walk with the coordination between their hands, eyes and feet to guide equipment in situations where precision is required,
  • Must have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment,
  • Must have fast reflexes, good depth perception and the ability to set controls quickly, precisely and repeatedly,
  • COVID-19 vaccination is highly recommended,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions:

  • This job may require you to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist. In addition, you must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job. This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • This job requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts).
  • This job requires the ability to perform essential job tasks in less than favorable job conditions. These may include, but are not limited to: Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
