Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Legal Practice Assistant in our Tax Practice Group, reporting to the Manager of Legal Practice Support. The position will be responsible for providing a broad range of administrative and substantive legal support to the Tax Practice Group in an environment where collaboration and exceptional client service are emphasized.

Legal Practice Assistants are part of ML LawPath, a comprehensive program that combines substantive law firm experience with practical, hands-on training and professional development opportunities. It is designed to provide the experience, connections and continuous learning to fast track your career, with an opportunity to form client relationships, routinely engage with attorneys and legal professionals, and gain significant analytical and project management skills. ML LawPath endeavors to help Legal Practice Assistants develop a well-rounded skill set and best practices that will foster their success as legal professionals and beyond.

This position will reside in our New York office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule. A two- to three-year commitment is expected. All new Legal Practice Assistants must start by June 24, 2024.

Key responsibilities of this position:

  • Tracking federal and state statutory and regulatory developments applicable to tax-exempt organizations and their individual and for-profit partners and funders.

  • Managing client and business development records, including new business matters, conflict management, and maintenance of client records on the firm's document management system.

  • Managing and maintaining templates and sample/model forms for group.

  • Tracking and communicating client project-related dates and information.

  • Preparing, analyzing, and maintaining data and databases.

  • Reviewing and preparing documents, reports, and correspondence.

  • Researching legal, regulatory, and business-related topics.

  • Coordinating and supporting business development efforts, including RFPs, mailing lists.

  • Assisting with, supporting the development and tracking of CLEs, speaking and writing opportunities.

  • Working with attorneys and partners on tracking project assignments and deadlines, workload.

  • Drafting and editing documents for corporate transactions, regulatory filings and submissions.

  • Assisting in corporate governance matters, including drafting incorporation documents, committee charters, bylaws, and taking board meeting minutes.

  • Assisting with drafting and filing applications for tax-exemption.

  • Assisting with transactional matters.

  • Preparing and organizing administrative filings of all sizes.

  • Performing other duties as assigned to support the Tax Practice Group.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.

  • One (1) year of internship or professional experience preferred; professional services industry experience a plus.

  • Independent, self-starting, and self-motivated.

  • Superior written/verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team environment are a must.

  • Exceptional organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to meet stringent deadlines, adapt to changing priorities, and balance multiple tasks while operating in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite.

  • Flexibility to travel and work non-business hours at times as needed.

The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
