JOB TITLE:

Assistant Makerspace DVR Coordinator (AMDC)

JOB PURPOSE:

As Division of Vocational Rehab (DVR)-affiliated makerspaces throughout the state grow and expand in scope, so will their requests for support, guidance, and shared programming. The Assistant Makerspace DVR Coordinator will assist in serving as a community relations liaison between the University of Wyoming, the Division of Vocational Rehab (DVR), and DVR populations.


Working closely with the Makerspace DVR Coordinator, the AMDC role will be tasked with providing services to a strong pre-employment transition services (pre-ETS) presence in the makerspace, which includes promoting makerspace resources for pre-ETS students as well as promoting and integrating subsequent DVR initiatives. Responsibilities of the AMDC will include: supervising Pre-ETS "Makerspace Ambassador" staff; developing DVR-focused curriculum and content to be shared out across Wyoming; fostering strong relationships that build trust and engagement within the community; and representing the best interests of DVR by developing programming that can be shared out with any interested K-12, transition classrooms, and community makerspace DVR partners.

Specifically, the AMDC will serve the role by:

  • Assist the MDC with developing programming for pre-ETS and DVR populations
  • Recruiting, training, and managing Laramie Makerspace Ambassador students and volunteers
  • Connecting DVR populations with available makerspace services and resources
  • Supporting pre-apprenticeships completing the Rural Youth Apprenticeship Development program
  • Developing and hosting recurring creative outreach events for DVR groups. These include tours, regular visits, special workshops, as well as one annual week-long day camp
  • Forging and coordinating relationships and partnerships in the community to grow engagement from DVR populations
  • Serving as Maker Access Pass (MAP) knowledge expert to help Makerspace Ambassadors navigate the program, learn new skills, and earn badges to share with employers
  • Developing and releasing new DVR-focused MAP content and curriculum, including developing course teaching guides that can be shared with all MAP partners
  • Working to convert existing MAP programming to Pre-ETS and K-12-friendly formats.
  • Creating clear lines of communication between the Innovation Wyrkshop and DVR stakeholders, including collecting and reporting engagement data
  • Acting as liaison to represent best interests between the University of Wyoming and DVR


The AMDC will assist the Innovation Wyrkshop in managing pre-ETS makerspace ambassadors during the length of their DVR-sponsored work experience as well as RYAD pre-apprentices in earning badges on the Maker Access Pass. The AMDC will also help to develop outreach, special events, and activities to benefit DVR populations. The position would be expected to work with the MDC in developing and implementing new curriculum and courses into the MAP program that help strengthen ties between trained pre-ETS students and potential employers, and also explore ways to add value to the Maker Access Pass, such as badge packages that may be recognized as for-credit high school or introductory college courses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train and support pre-ETS student staff. Monitor employee work and assist in hard and soft skill development.
  • Assist pre-ETS students and DVR-affiliated guests with the use of the technology equipment found in the makerspace.
  • Provide high-quality support for pre-ETS staff, visitors, and DVR audiences for the equipment used.
  • Advise DVR visitors and provide basic training to maximize their ability to utilize makerspace tools, features, and resources.
  • Teach and lead regular makerspace related educational programs for DVR field trip groups, classes, community groups, and visitor workshop participants. Design and develop outreach materials for use by students and educators. Assist with planning and coordinating educational outreach events each year.
  • Enforce policies and procedures regarding safety, training, use of equipment, and access to the space via the Maker Access Pass. Ensure that makerspace procedures and policies are being followed.
  • Collaborate with DVR counselors, other makerspace coordinators, K-12 classes, and community groups on events and activities.
  • Serve on maker-centered committees as appropriate.

Monthly Duties-

Monthly reporting of services provided to DVR.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates Degree or Some College

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1 year work-related experience working with DVR populations or educational programming
