Position Highlights The Department of Religious Studies and Classics at the University of Arizona invites applications for a one-year visiting lecturer in Religious Studies (full time, with benefits). Candidates at the ABD level will be considered for the position at the rank of visiting instructor. The successful candidate will teach General Education courses for a diverse undergraduate student population.

The department seeks applicants with specialties in one or more of the following areas: Religion and Health; Religion and Gender/Sexuality; Religion in the U.S. Southwest; Religion in Late Antiquity. Candidates prepared to teach a freshman-level "Introduction to World Religions" course are encouraged to apply.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teaching 3 courses per semester based on department needs (80% of workload).
  • Service for the department, including student outreach activities (20% of workload).
  • Holding office hours.
  • Preparing teaching materials independently and collaboratively.
  • Attending meetings and/or events as requested.Actively recruiting majors and minors to the BA in Religious Studies and the BS in Religious Studies for Health Professionals.
  • Contributing to departmental efforts to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement and fostering diversity and inclusive excellence.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Religious Studies or closely related field by August 1, 2024
  • Professional-level English
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching Religious Studies at the university level.
