JOB TITLE:
Outreach Assistant
JOB PURPOSE:
The Science Initiative Roadshow is a team of undergraduate and graduate students from UW, along with UW instructors, who travel throughout the state facilitating hands-on learning in K-12 STEM classrooms using active learning techniques. The teams from UW work with K-12 teachers to integrate learning experiences into existing curricula in order to achieve assigned learning outcomes. This collaborative approach exposes Wyoming students and teachers to innovative active learning techniques and creates links between UW and schools across the state to improve STEM teaching statewide. The Roadshow is interested in expanding the demographic of their reach by performing hands-on STEM activities with older individuals in Wyoming. This would include senior care and residential facilities, community groups serving this population, and/or senior centers.
As a Roadshow outreach assistant, you will be required to attend 1-hour weekly meetings, build outreach and in-reach STEM content, help edit and create activities to be accessible to the older adult population, and travel to certain outreach events across Wyoming. University excused absences will be provided when relevant for travel. Outreach assistants will also have the opportunity for training and professional development in best practices. Hours per week will not exceed 5 hours except for specific outreach/in-reach events.
The events for the older population will be taking place between April-September 2024. Availability over the summer would be necessary for this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend weekly Roadshow meetings
Design, develop, implement, and consult on STEM outreach activities for older individuals
Travel required up to 20% of the time
Be available between April-September 2024

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Enrolled UW Main Campus/ UW Casper Student
Completion and passing of a background check
Available for work between April-September 2024
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with older individuals
Background in Aging or a related field
Some STEM-related or education-related major
