Position Overview:

The successful candidate will perform work as an Inspector for our FDOT projects in District 7, 1, 2, and various local jurisdictions. The Inspector will perform technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, make and check engineering computations, inspect construction work, conduct field tests, and coordinate and manage the lower-level inspectors. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Project Administrator.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reads contract plans, specifications, shop drawings, and regulatory agency manuals.
  • Reviews project activities with contractor's field supervision to resolve disputes and other project issues.
  • Performing work under the general supervision of the Senior Inspector or Project Administrator/ Project Engineer.
  • Read and interpret construction contract language.
  • Possess current material testing certifications applicable for earthwork, asphalt, concrete, pile driving, drilled shafts, etc.
  • Material testing and documentation of acceptance. Coordinate verification testing.
  • Performs density and asphalt tests; samples and verifies certification of materials.
  • Inspection of and documentation of contractor's quality of work.
  • Tracks quality assurance progress.
  • Monitor on-site construction activities; prepare daily and weekly reports on work accomplished by contractor and track quantities of completed work.
  • Perform field inspection of contractors' operations to confirm compliance with contract documents; prepare inspection reports.
  • Prepare Daily Reports in SiteManager software as well as any other client required documentation.
  • Maintain detailed accurate records of daily operations and significant events.
  • Prepare sketches and assemble data for Senior Inspector or Project Administrator to utilize when making changes to the project.
  • Participate in the development of job safety practices and observe general job safety practices.
  • Monitor and inspect the Work Zone Traffic Control (in accordance with the client's requirements)
  • Ensure timely completion of time sheets and expense reports.
  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.


Minimum Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years progressive experience in construction inspection, two (2) years of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway construction inspection or a Civil Engineering degree and one (1) year of road & bridge CEI experience.
  • 4+ years of CEI and construction experience on road and bridge infrastructure DOT projects preferred; FDOT experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to earn additional required qualifications within one year, as required by job assignments:
    1. FDOT Intermediate MOT
    2. CTQP Concrete Field Technician Level I
    3. CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level II (Bridges)
    4. CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
    5. CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level II
    6. CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
    7. CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level II
    8. CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
    9. CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection
    10. CTQP Grouting Technician Level I (Bridges)
    11. CTQP Post-Tensioning Technician Level I (Bridges)
    12. CTQP Final Estimates Level I
    13. Nuclear Radiation Safety
  • Good understanding of construction specifications and plans, with ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge of DOT specification and standards.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team of inspectors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing), and have excellent analytical, technical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work weekends, nights, and swing shifts if required on assigned projects.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the full suite of Microsoft Office programs and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
