Job Description

Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a full-time Clinical Nurse Educator Generalist

Schedule: Full-time (40 hrs./wk Flexible Schedule) Evenings and/or Nights

Flexible Shifts can be 8 Hours or 12 Hours

Flexible Hours can be:

3pm - 11pm

3pm - 3am

4pm - 12midnight

4pm - 4pm

7pm - 7am

This Clinical Educator Generalist will complete Registered Nurse competencies across the Hospital in multiple specialties.

The Clinical Educator of Nursing utilizes system strategies and tools to assess the competency of new nursing staff members while focusing on quality of care and patient safety goals. Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based principles and clinical nursing expertise into educational experiences for both new and experienced team members. Prepares annual self-development plans, sets professional goals and seek opportunities for achieving them. Contributes to quality and safety initiatives across the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implements Inova Health System programs for team members to achieve patient care and outcome standards, such as core measures, Magnet standards and patient satisfaction.
  • Plans and implements educational activities to support individual development and organizational goals. Utilizes system strategies and tools to assess competence of new nursing team members while focusing on quality of care and patient safety goals.
  • Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based principles, and clinical nursing expertise into educational experiences for both new and experienced team members
  • Incorporates best practices and research into educational programs while analyzing quality and effectiveness of educational programs.
  • Informs appropriate nursing leaders when team members are unable to successfully complete, or are noncompliant with, required competencies.
  • Works with teams to synthesize data about quality and safety measures which lead to needed improvements in standards of care by developing, revising and implementing polices, procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborates with clinicians to ensure practice is evidence-based and identifies, reviews and applies evidence to guidelines and standards for patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Additional Requirements

* Three (3) years progressive experience in Nursing/Clinical Specialty and/or Nursing/Clinical Education

* Master's degree in nursing, Healthcare, Education and/or other relevant field.

* Licensed or eligible for license in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse.

* National certification in Nursing Professional Development or Nursing Specialty within one year of hire.

* Ability to facilitate clinical-based employee education in a variety of settings including classroom based, online programs and simulation-based programs.
