Job Description

The Building People, LLC, has an opening for a full-time Energy Senior Program Manager. The successful candidate must live in the Washington, DC region to periodically be on client site or in the Leesburg, VA HQ office, though the role will be primarily remote.The Energy Senior Program Manager role reports to the Vice President of Energy, Environment, and Smarter Buildings, and will maintain a portfolio of projects and contracts within this space for the federal government; splitting time between contract administration, delivery, capture and proposal development, and team mentorship . More specifically, the candidate will be responsible for leading the energy consulting side of the business and thought leadership, while interfacing with other components such as the smart buildings team.


Required Skills

  • Leading a team to deliver project(s) on behalf of our client.
  • Maintaining full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment to delivery for one or more initiatives simultaneously.
  • Managing team resources, schedules, financials and adhering to federal government quality control guidelines throughout the full program delivery life cycle.
  • Developing and managing all aspects of project and program engagement from planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, change, risks and issues, and ensuring the overall program is aligned to and directly supporting the achievement of our customer's strategic objectives.
  • Monitoring staff performance and completing performance reviews.
  • Performing internal quality control reviews to ensure projects and programs are proceeding according to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives as it relates to improving project delivery while exceeding customer expectations.
  • Setting and continually managing project and program expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders.
  • Supervising all personnel assigned to the project including time coding, leave approval, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensuring the project achieves the required quality of deliverables within the specified constraints of time and cost.
  • Supporting and maintaining the company culture that fosters creativity, innovation, and advancement.
  • Securing adequate resources to achieve project objectives in planned timeframes
  • Defining success criteria and disseminating them to involved parties throughout project and program life cycle.
  • Providing status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks and issues, communicating across leadership.
  • Coaching, mentoring, motivating, and supervising project and program team.
  • Developing and delivering program presentations to various audiences, including project team, clients, CEO and key stakeholders.
  • Working creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment and demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
  • Experience and familiarity with federal agencies and respective goals or policies is very much preferred (e.g., EO 14057)
  • Substantial experience with federal contracting and procurement is preferred
  • Supporting capture and proposal activities related to new energy and smart buildings work

Required Experience

  • 10 years of experience in project, program, and portfolio management
  • 10 years of experience in energy, renewable energy, efficiency, and economic optimization; both technical and federal policy

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Related Field
  • Master's degree in a Related Field (i.e., Engineering, Sustainability, Finance, or Real Estate) is preferred
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) preferred
