Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Senior Counsel, Privacy & People, reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel in the Legal Department.

  • Located in Ashburn, VA with hybrid potential
  • Pays $153,000 - $187,000 with bonus potential

Privacy/Data Protection and Compliance Program

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive privacy compliance programs.
  • Ensure adherence to privacy laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Advise on data protection laws and regulations, including CCPA, GDPR and other applicable frameworks.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify and address privacy issues.
  • Review and negotiate privacy-related clauses in contracts and vendor relationships.
  • Conduct privacy training for employees to increase awareness and understanding.
  • Stay informed about developments in privacy and data security laws and educate the legal team and relevant stakeholders accordingly.
  • Manage outside counsel in a cost-effective manner.
  • Establish and implement processes for monitoring and auditing privacy compliance.
  • Regularly assess and update privacy controls to address emerging risks.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Compliance Program to prevent and detect illegal, unethical, or improper conduct by employees, agents, and affiliated providers.
  • Lead regular risk assessments and manage retaliation-free reporting channels, including an anonymous telephone reporting system.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and ethical conduct for individuals in management and sensitive positions.
  • Collaborate with the People Department on policies, procedures, and incentive programs to discourage improper conduct and promote adherence to the Compliance Program.
  • Coordinate investigations with outside counsel as needed and present periodic.
  • Conduct an annual review of the Compliance Program and manual, reporting regularly to the internal committees and addressing issues.
  • Coordinate internal and external audit procedures to monitor and detect misconduct, recommending and following up on solutions and training as needed.
  • Track all compliance issues referred to the People and Legal Departments.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school (US).
  • Excellent academic credentials, analytical skills, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Admittance to the Bar and in good standing in Virginia or admitted to the Bar and in good standing in another state and eligible for admission through waiver in Virginia.
  • At least 3+ years of substantial privacy and compliance experience in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department.

Preferred

  • Experience working with multi-unit food and beverage concessionaires, brands, and operational teams or with suppliers, distributors, and service providers within the food, beverage, or hospitality industry.
  • Experience advising on international privacy and data security issues and supporting clients outside the United States.
