The CERT division of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a federally funded research and development center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, engages in state-of-the-art research and development and provides robust solutions focused on ensuring that software engineers, cybersecurity experts, network and system administrators, and others are able to resist, recognize, and recover from attacks on software systems.
The Applied Systems Group helps organizations apply best practices, tools, and techniques at the rate needed to keep pace with evolving opportunities, threats, and risks. The goal of the team is to provide expertise in a wide range of skills throughout the software development lifecycle with a focus on holistic cybersecurity and engineering approaches to software intensive systems. Our team must keep pace with rapid changes to the computing and software landscape and, in some cases, the computing has outpaced the methods. It is incumbent upon us to generate novel approaches to meet specific and unique sponsor needs.
Position Summary:
Working alongside other technical experts in the institute, you will be involved in designing and developing the layouts, programs, and concepts to shape the user's experience to improve the capabilities of CERT customers. You will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle and will contribute to key decisions regarding design, technology selection, and architecture of secure and resilient systems. You will be expected to function within cross-domain teams; learn new skills and technologies as necessary; solve meaningful problems through innovation; and stay up to date with the latest user trends and technologies. Working directly with sponsors and end users you will analyze customer requirements and provide novel solutions.
