ERT is seeking an Administrative Support Specialist to support our customers at the NOAA Office of Education (OEd). This is an on-site position located at NOAA's Silver Spring facility.
The NOAA OEd manages 300 student scholars per year in NOAA's undergraduate scholarship programs. The successful applicant would serve on a 5-member team that manages all aspects of student participation, including recruitment, selection, orientation, and internships.
Tasks to be performed include the following:
- Support the student application, administrative review, and evaluation process.
- Track and monitor student progress in the student scholarship programs.
- Organize, update, and maintain electronic program files, including data entry and validation of Hollings Scholars' data in the OED Student Tracker System.
- Assist with the preparation of responses to request for information for review and approval by the Program Managers.
- Prepare correspondence for signature and distribution to internal and external audiences.
- Maintain, track, and field inquiries from the designated Scholarship phone line regarding NOAA student scholarship programs.
- Support the scholarship program staff during the student Orientation Program and the Science and Education Symposium.
- Assist with the planning, scheduling, organizing, and facilitation of Student Scholarship meetings.
- Participate in student recruitment activities and events.
- Conduct other education and outreach activities in support of the education and scholarship programs, as needed.
- Maintain scholarship program calendar of events and activities.
- Participate in job-related professional development, as appropriate.
Requirements
- 2 - 5 years of related previous administrative experience required.
- Demonstrable software user skills on Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint; Email and MS Internet Explorer.
- Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good verbal and written communication skills (English).
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility. No visa sponsorships available.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
