Energy Education Specialist

Description

Performs a variety of professional duties required to coordinate energy savings efforts and implement appropriate best practices for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS); evaluates and utilizes the most effective energy providers and rates; reports on program efforts and status via various media and methods; assists program manager in preparation of energy budget draft; verifies accuracy of energy billing and payment functions; researches and recommends energy efficient methods and materials; utilizes accounting software to manage energy usage and cost data; promotes program improvement through staff development; utilizes various methods for measuring and recognizing program success; produces and provides appropriate extracurricular and instructional opportunities at assigned schools.

Qualifications

Required

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in energy management, environmental resource management, sustainability, business management, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of progressively more responsible experience in implementing energy conservation and/or efficiency measures and/or coordinating energy savings efforts for a large organization.
  • Knowledge of energy management and sustainability best practices.
  • Knowledge of the use and practice of employing energy control and monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws related to assigned office.
  • Knowledge of basic operation (such as schedules, set points, and space condition monitoring) of different types of energy operating and monitoring systems.
  • Skill in basic math to evaluate energy accounting and billing data.
  • Skill in utilizing energy accounting software.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to educate staff and team members on the importance of energy management and sustainability practices.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative working relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred
  • Experience in educational setting.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Facility Management Professional (FMP), Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP), or related certifications.

$68,138 - $115,949
