Transportation Engineer (Transportation Engineer V)

State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS) is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineer (Transportation Engineer V) in Anne Arundel County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. Nature of Work: This position is in the Traffic Development and Support Division (TDSD), Traffic Engineering Research and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Team. The Transportation Engineer V serves as an assistant program manager and lead researcher for the following: reviewing and assessing traffic safety and operation issues; coordination of engineering activities and monitoring, testing, and evaluating ITS related traffic engineering projects for effectiveness in addressing operation and safety needs; conducting the traffic engineering research program and projects; developing strategies for implementing new technologies; performing post-project evaluations of safety countermeasures; and presenting/publishing research findings. This position will be responsible for developing and updating traffic engineering policies, procedures, and guidelines widely used in Maryland. This position will coordinate efforts to update and implement the statewide Speed Management Action Plan. This position will also respond to inquiries raised by internal customers in MDOT and external customers including local government, elected officials, and residents. The position may represent SHA on various federal and state traffic engineer conferences and workshops.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in professional engineering.
Selective Qualifications: Two and a half (2 ) years of the required experience must have involved transportation research and/or traffic analysis of highway planning and design projects.

1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience.
3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
