Mission & Vision Alignment: The Multicultural Student Services Center (MSSC) at George Washington University is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Program Coordinator, focused on race, ethnicity, and culture. The individual in this position will play a pivotal role in promoting inclusivity, equity, and access for all historically marginalized racial and ethnic communities at GW. The Program Coordinator is expected to lead and support from an intersectional lens, understanding the multiple identities and lived experiences held by members of the community. Reporting to the Assistant Director of the MSSC, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for leading educational initiatives, partnering with staff and students to lead the Heritage Celebration Months, fostering leadership and mentorship opportunities for Students of Color, and monthly programming on race, ethnicity, and culture. It is important that the individual in this role has a robust understanding of race, ethnicity, and culture in the context of the US and globally given our student population. We are seeking a justice-centered individual to fill this role. The ideal candidate should be a dedicated, self-motivated leader committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates should be grounded in critical theory, including Critical Race Theory, Black Feminist Theory, Indigenous Ways of Knowing, and should operate within an intersectional framework. Key Responsibilities: Educational Initiatives and Programming: Develop and implement campus-wide educational initiatives and programs focused on race, ethnicity, and culture. These initiatives aim to foster a more inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff. Leadership Development: Promote leadership development and mentorship opportunities for Students of Color to empower them to become active leaders and advocates within the university community. Advising: Serve as a co-advisor to race, ethnic, and culturally based student organizations. Advocacy: Promote the integration of perspectives from Students of Color, with a specific emphasis on historically marginalized identities within Communities of Color, into broader community programs and initiatives. Awareness and Celebration: Lead the celebration and promotion of Heritage Months, monthly programming, historic and commemorative days, and amplifying Communities of Color within other days/months (e.g., Trans Day of Visibility). Collaborate with Alumni Affairs to engage Alumni of Color. Communication: Create written and visual communications that effectively spotlight our programming and initiatives; Thoughtfully and intentionally amplify the narratives and experiences of Students of Color within both the GW and the local community.
