WGL - Director, Cyber Operations & BISO Utilities

Reporting to the Senior Director & CISO, this role will oversee the operations of the enterprise's IT and OT cybersecurity and monitoring tools, and management of the organization's Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP). The secondary role for this position (Business Information Security Officer (BISO), Utilities) will ensure that the cyber strategy and initiatives are aligned with the Utilities business objectives and will provide guidance and support to the Digital Business Partners for WGL, WGES and SEMCO

You will:

  • Oversee the delivery of cyber products, including the design, analysis, development, testing and troubleshooting of security solutions
  • Manage the delivery of advanced cyber monitoring and incident response capabilities including performance of 7x24 monitoring, security controls, threat intelligence consumption and analytics
  • Ensure that security best practices and controls, in alignment with industry best practices and guidance from regulatory requirements, including US and Canadian critical infrastructure directives, are included in security solutions
  • Determine the objectives and priorities of the cyber operations team and managed security service provider to ensure successful execution of the enterprise cyber strategy, business operation plans, programs, projects, and other initiatives
  • Support formal investigations of misconduct in collaboration and manage responses to Cyber and Data Protection incidents and their resolution in collaboration with the following functions: Corporate Ethics & Compliance, Legal, GRC, Human Resources, Corporate Security / EHS.
  • Manage and respond to Data Privacy and cyber support requests from across the business in coordination with the CISO
  • Represent WGL and SEMCO at State Commission cybersecurity briefings


You have:

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science or related field preferred
  • 10+ Years experience building and leading large cybersecurity teams and managed services. required
  • Experience implementing cyber frameworks (NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), MITRE ATT&CK) as well as regulatory frameworks (e.g., TSA Security Directives)
  • Knowledge of infrastructure design - change and operation, including networking, hardware, storage, security
  • Direct hands-on experience with managing a SOC (Security Operations Centre)
  • Effectively communicate complex information both verbally and in writing to various stakeholders
  • Build relationships with IT and OT operations and leadership across the organization to influence change and drive adherence to the enterprise cyber strategy, standards and policies, and best practice security standards
  • Partner with the CISO and cyber architecture to develop, refine, and promote the team's vision with the business and execute short- and long-term plans
  • Extensive experience managing third-party security service providers in the delivery of cybersecurity
  • Knowledge of cyber regulatory requirements in Canada and the US, including TSA (Transportation Security Administration) Security Directives
  • Willingness to be on 7x24 on-all support to manage cyber incidents
  • Must be eligible for security clearance in the US and participate in secure cyber briefings.
  • CISM, CRISC, CISA and CISSP certifications desired
