Basic Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience. Must have past Electrical Engineering experience in Analog to Digital (A/D) conversion with Digital Network interface or Gate Array programing skills.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: [Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire.] Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems is looking for a Advanced Electrical Engineer for our Progeny Business Area. You will be a member of a cross functional team responsible for the design and development of submarine (VA Class, Columbia Class, and SSN(X)) acoustic systems and directly contribute to the technical success of our programs through hands-on technical contributions.

Duties and Tasks:

  • Analyze and design analog and digital electronic circuits including signal conditioning, power, analog-to-digital conversion, and network communication applicable to acoustic hydrophone systems.
  • Design, analyze, and test underwater acoustic systems.
  • Integrate, test, troubleshoot, and verify electrical hardware.
  • Develop test criteria and assist in the design of test systems including test software applications.
  • Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions.
  • Design and build prototype cable assemblies.
  • Perform solder rework of prototype circuit card assemblies.
  • Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer.
  • Generate design and interface documentation Experience with the engineering development life cycle, including concept, requirements, design, implementation and test phases.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ahead of technology trends with Research & Development (R&D) experience.
  • Motivated to drive innovation through architectures, assembly, component selection, and electronics design.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills with demonstrated success leading design teams for complex projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in test, troubleshooting, and analyzing circuit card schematics.
  • Team player committed to ongoing professional development for yourself and others.
  • Knowledge of common communication interfaces such as: Ethernet, RS-485, USB, CAN bus, LVDS, and protocols such as TCP and UDP.
  • Experience in analog and digital circuit design including signal integrity principles.
  • Proficiency in all phases of PCB design including creation of high-level functional and architectural diagrams, SPICE analysis, power analysis, component selection, schematic entry (OrCAD Capture experience a plus), and working with the PCB layout team to optimize placement, signal integrity, fitment, etc.
  • Familiarity with Information Assurance (IA) and electronics design that will meet down-grading requirements.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience with MATLAB programming a plus.

Target salary range: USD $118,424.20/Yr. - USD $131,376.80/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
