Under regular supervision performs maintenance of a wide variety of medical equipment according to manufacturers' procedures and departmental established schedule and guidelines.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Completes assigned maintenance workload in a timely manner. Accurately and neatly documents all maintenance work.

  1. Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to include visual and mechanical inspection, safety testing, performance testing, calibrations, minor repairs, and proper labeling of the equipment.
  2. Demonstrates technical knowledge of principles of operation and clinical aspects of use of the equipment.
  3. Responsible for incoming inspection documentation and performance verification of clinical instrumentation as necessary.
  4. Perform needed corrective maintenance and calibration of clinical equipment as required. Responding to telephone or direct requests for service from equipment users. Troubleshooting will be performed with simulators, test equipment, and service manuals. Troubleshooting will be to component level whenever feasible. Perform repairs of medical equipment using proper work methods and procedures. Confirm operation of repaired equipment.
  5. Responsible for timely, accurate and complete documentation of of all maintenance activities according to departmental policies and procedures. Open and close work orders as soon as within the stipulated timelines. Demonstrates proficiency in electronic and electromechanical troubleshooting while performing quality work.
  6. Oversee warranty repairs and contracted services by outside service representatives. Requests service parts as needed for corrective maintenance or stock replenishment. Completes necessary paperwork completely and neatly.
  7. The technician will be required to be on call, rotating or permanent basis to handle emergency repairs during off hours. On call staff must make every reasonable attempt to return calls to the hospital within (30) minutes.
  8. All staff are accountable for having their pagers in proper working order and carrying them at all times.
  9. Report and/or make recommendations to the manager and/or supervisor regarding preventive maintenance procedures and schedules, operational improvements, incident investigations, etc. Inventories, inspects and identifies equipment to be included to the database. Completes all necessary forms properly and neatly.
  10. Performs related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. Associates degree and or equivalent of trade school or military certificate in electronics technology or biomedical engineering.
  2. Bachelor degree preferred.
  3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in repair, maintenance of electronic instrumentation with emphasis on medical equipment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Highly effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels hospital staff, patients, visitors, and levels of staff.
  2. Knowledge of applicable trade areas.
  3. Listening and organizational skills.
  4. Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft office programs.
  5. Results oriented, mature, self-developing, and have integrity.
  6. Be able to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions and have the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
