Position Highlights The successful candidate will be part of the Achilli Research and Teaching (ART) Lab at the WEST Center. The ART Lab conducts research on advanced water treatment systems and processes for water treatment. In the Lab, the postdoc will design, organize, manage, and carry out research on water purification systems. They will formulate research hypothesis using controlled experiments and field trials, summarize results, and prepare report and/or publications. Physical requirements and environmental demands include operating and monitoring water purification systems outdoors and in noisy environments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, monitor, and control bench- and engineering-scale process for advanced water treatment using membranes.
  • Perform tailored bench-scale experiments to elucidate transport mechanism and interactions between membranes and water pollutants.
  • Utilize analytical equipment to measure concentrations of water pollutants. Evaluate treatment performance of water treatment unit-processes.
  • Participate in the developing of research proposals to acquire grants for the development of novel water treatment technologies.
  • Author and coauthor articles in peer-reviewed journals, books, or chapter publications in the field of water treatment.
  • Participate and/or present at regional and national research conferences.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze and summarize large data sets using computing and/or statistical tools
  • Ability to read complex operations and technical reports
  • Ability to write detailed reports and prepare and deliver presentations
  • Ability to travel, sit for extended time periods, climb uneven terrain and lift small loads
  • Advanced computer skills: MS Office, Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Exceptional organizational and teamwork skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize efficiently
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Selected candidate must have Ph.D. conferred upon hire.
  • Experience in advanced water treatment processes, including membrane separation, oxidation, physical adsorption, or biological processes.
  • Background and experience in experimental and/or modeling approaches for advanced membrane-based water treatment systems, desalination, and/or water reuse systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous history of published research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in designing, constructing, and operating bench- or pilot-scale water treatment systems.
  • Experience in LabView and monitoring/controlling software platforms.
  • Experience in MATLAB, Phyton, and statistical software platforms.
  • Experience in water quality analysis, including analysis of trace organic chemicals in complex water matrices.
