We are looking for an energetic and highly organized research assistant interested in human genetics, cortical development, and evolution. As a NIH and HHMI funded lab at Boston Children's Hospital, our research is focused on the elucidation of fundamental mechanisms governing development of the human cerebral cortex. We use genetics and animal and cellular models in conjunction with molecular tools in our investigation of neuronal development. This position will focus on comparing the rates and types of somatic mutations in human and non-human primate brains as well as other ongoing work in the lab.

As a member of the research staff your duties and responsibilities would include:

  • Working with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and staff members on research projects
  • Using and understanding a wide variety of molecular biology protocols
  • Analyzing data
  • Extracting DNA, RNA, and proteins from blood and tissue samples
  • Working with research animals
  • Quantifying and distributing DNA samples
  • Maintaining equipment
  • Performing general lab maintenance

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field required
  • Experience working in a molecular biology lab, good problem solving skills, excellent organizational and communication skills, and enjoy working as part of a team
  • 2 year commitment to the position required
